Moving Tips

Give yourself enough time to plan properly. If you are flexible with your moving schedule it can be as simple as planning to move in the off-peak season. This is mainly during the winter months and there can be significant cost savings for you.

Movage carries a full line of packing supplies for your convenience. Movage can pack, protect, prepare and move just about everything no matter how fragile or oddly shaped.

Please keep in mind that packed by owner shipments or "PBO" cannot be fully insured. Movage International recommends that you leave the packed boxes unsealed for our crew to inspect the contents and make the proper entry on the packing inventory.

If you are planning do-it-yourself packing job be smart and choose quality packing materials. We always recommend our sturdy customized boxes for your household goods as opposed to you getting free boxes from your local supermarket. Just keep in mind that these boxes will exchange many hands and few modes of transportation and also spending many weeks in transit.

Few helpful tips:

List contents and room on the outside of the carton. Clearly mark "Fragile" on the outside of cartons. Separate breakables and non-breakables. Use clean newsprint paper. Old newspapers may work, but use them carefully because the ink may rub off onto your items.

For items you want to keep clean, you can buy unprinted newspaper from Movage. Use professional packing tape. Masking tape isn't strong enough to support fully packed cartons. You can buy the tape from any hardware store or from Movage for your convenience.

China and Glasses:

Use large, double corrugated boxes. Cushion the bottom with rolled paper. Wrap each piece individually. Bundle flatware in groups of three and wrap the bundle. Do not place one layer of dishes directly on top of another, separate with a layer of stuffed paper.

Wrap plates in plain newsprint and pack vertically rather than stacking. Cushion the top along with the sides with paper to prevent shifting -- the steadier the contents, the less chance of damages.

Clothing:

Empty dressers completely. Put hanging clothes in wardrobe boxes. If you have empty space at the bottom you can still add some more soft goods. Put extra tape along the sides.

DO NOT PACK:

Money, valuable papers, and jewelry. There are several items that cannot be transported such as flammable items (aerosol cans, paints, and gasoline). Perishable items such as frozen foods and plants.

Movage will supply you with customs regulations for your destination country. This customs information page will list certain items that are restricted or prohibited by your destination country.
